Test vehicle - Opel Astra 2006 - Test performed by ADAC

With increasing popularity, the German company ADAC, security expert in cars perform crash tests and fire on an Opel Astra 2006 with a conventional system the GPL.

At first they put a car for more than 60 km per hour to hit hard on the rear of the vehicle to LPG, exactly where a reservoir toric over 55L of LPG (80% of that tank supports).

It appears that the crash test, the other with the motor vehicle is completely destroyed. Compartment of the luggage was placed a camera to verify the behavior of the collision and deformation thereof.

It is concluded that the LPG tank and the whole system stays intact. The damage of the vehicle are minimal because the deposit was eventually halt the deterioration of the deformation of the vehicle. As expected, there is no difference in pressure in the tank after the collision.

They tested then put the engine and it worked perfectly, without any leakage.

But what happens if the vehicle is subject to an incident involving a fire?

There is a deposit in the valve that regulates the pressure of the reservoir. This valve is actuated when the surrounding temperature reaches 800 º C, in order to free gas in stages, preventing the expansion of LPG tank causes the damage.

Put to this test, a container of benzene even below the tank of LPG. Thus caused the fire. A camera that measures the intensity of heat, filmed the burning to know how many degrees Celsius burned the car. In a controlled way, the safety valve was releasing the LPG, while the car burned completely. As expected, the car did not explode and operation of safety devices were all operated successfully.

It is thus once again proven that LPG vehicles are as safe as other, powered by conventional fuels. LPG deposits turn out to be much safer than deposits petrol or diesel, as well as having safety devices more sophisticated than conventional ones, are ultra-resistant.
